Getting around Vietnam
Reunification train, night buses, domestic flights, Grab or scooter: how to connect your stops simply and without overpaying.
In Vietnam, three modes cover long distances: flights (fast, €35–70 per leg), trains (authentic, ideal Hanoi → Huế) and night buses (budget). In cities, Grab replaces most street taxis.
Which mode for which leg?
- Hanoi → Đà Nẵng / Hội An: 1 h flight (best if < 12 days) or train + road.
- Hanoi → Huế: overnight sleeper train (13–14 h) — scenery guaranteed.
- Hanoi → Saigon: 2 h flight or 32 h Reunification train (split into stops).
- Hanoi → Sapa: VIP minibus or night train + transfer (no local airport).
- In town: Grab car or bike; scooters only outside major city centres.
